Fig and Apple Pie

Lyrics

It wasn’t me who stole the figs,
Off of your tree at 113 Obrero Drive.
But while you’re here I’d love to tell you,
That I’m more than glad to sell you,
One or two of these here fig and apple pies.

I baked them just this morning.
What’d you say? You could have sworn,
It looked like me out by your tree? Well that’s a lie.
Well I was there, but hey relax man.
See I swear I saw the tax man.
Put one in his bag while he was walking by.

Now we might have stole your housing,
For our brunches and carousing.
But we’ll gladly rent it back to you and yours.
That is unless of course it’s taken,
It’s quite hard to find one vacant,
What with all the coffee shops and vintage stores.

Now we might have stole the straps,
Out of your boots while you were trapped on long commutes,
And table-scrapping for your meals.
Well we had the best intent for you,
And your indentured servitude,
It’s just we’ve been so busy cutting deals.

We’re all in this together,
Just take one for the team.
You’re with us or against us,
And there is no in between.
Liberty and justice but for just us at the top.
Not so much for mom and pops,
Or the people out there keeping shops.
But not the people out there working nonstop.
There’s simply not enough to go around.

Oh yessiree we stole the wages,
From the working class for ages.
Can’t let those bureaucrats and unions get it all.
But if you’re good we might just treat you,
To a brand new slice of pizza,
And a another part-time job down at the mall.

And Lordy be we armed the state,
And kept you all incarcerated.
Sowed the seeds of fear and hatred in the fields.
Well, technically we didn’t sow them,
It was workers, but we showed them,
Where to stand and how to vote and what to feel.

We’re all in this together,
Just take one for the team.
You’re with us or against us,
And there is no in between.
Liberty and justice but for just us at the top.
Not so much for mom and pops,
Or the people out there tending crops.
But not the people out there working nonstop.
There’s simply not enough.

So like I said it wasn’t me,
Who stole your figs but I can see,
How it might look a bit suspicious where you stand.
Looks like the tax man fleeced you good,
But hey, if you can’t afford a pie today,
We gladly offer two installment plans.

The ruby red plan costs you less today,
Converts to debt your kids can pay,
But really cuts that tax bill when you die.
Now the blue plan’s more or less the same,
But it just includes a picture frame,
With an IOU and a photo of a pie.

We’re all in this together,
Just take one for the team.
You’re with us or against us and there is no in between.
Liberty and justice but for just us at the top.
Not so much for mom and pops,
People out there keeping shops and pushing mops,
And building props, and moving boxes, making drops,
And pouring slops, searing chops, and local cops or…
Well maybe cops. Yeah. Maybe cops.
But not the people out there working nonstop, no.
There’s simply not enough to go around.
